Where to stay during the seminar?

We have a few suggestions on where to stay during the seminar, from very nice hotels to more affordable ones, over to really cheap dormitories. Please have a look at http://www.tech-diving.se/2006/accomodation.php.

Presentation: Dr Mark Dougherty

Dr Mark Dougherty has considerable experience of cave rescue and he has participated in several cave diving rescue and recovery operations. This summer he was team leader for the deep diving operation at Plura River Cave. His talk will give an overview of the operation and the factors which lay behind its success.

Many lessons were learned during the operation. The most important lesson was that we were not well-prepared for such an operation in Scandinavia. Many years of accident-free cave diving gave a false sense of security. With the increase in popularity of technical diving, particularly in overhead environments, there is an identified need to review existing rescue and recovery arrangements and to organise specialised training.

As a good starting point for discussion, an international perspective on cave diving rescue and recovery will be given. It is hope that this will stimulate a constructive discussion about how to go forward. Read more about Mark Dougherty here.

Will Norwegians dominate the seminar?

So far the interest for the seminar has been very international. Though Scandinavians are dominating, with Swedes on the top, Norwegians are not far behind. Among the other countries are Russia, Italy, United Kingdom, Latvia, Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Germany.
