Discoverer of Mars the Magnificent will be speaking on Tech-Diving 2012
Mars the Magnificient was the mighty admiralship of the Swedish fleet in the 16th century. The ship was sunk during the Nordic seven year war in 1564. - This year’s discovery and exploration of the 16th century war ship Mars is without a doubt the crown of the last six years exploration efforts, says Richard Lundgren. Richard Lundgren will be one of the speakers of the Tech-Diving 2012 conference in January where he will present the search for and discovery of Mars the Magnificient, the biggest achievement in Swedish wreck history since the discovery of the Vasa ship.
Richard Lundgren doesn´t believe in future major breakthroughs in the field of technical diving. - The magic pill eliminating all decompression obligation? The magic carpet eliminating the need of diver proficiency and skill? I think not, says Richard with a smile. The continued integration of man and machine is truly a challenge. Few innovations have impacted diving really since the 1980s, still the limits of diving is pushed further and further, deeper and deeper. Are we risking a backlash due to increased numbers of accidents or will diver training keep up?
Richard Lundgren has worked as a diver professionally around the world for more than 20 years. He’s been fortunate to have participated in many sensational exploration projects such as HMHS Britannic, sister ship of the RMS Titanic. Lundgren is a founding member of the exploration organization, GUE, Global Underwater Explorers and serve in the training council. Lundgren pioneered Technical and Cave diving, exploration diving, in Scandinavia in the early 1990s and part founded the prestigious explorations groups BSTD, Baltic Sea technical Divers, and Ocean Discovery.
